Expensive Clothes and Style: Does Price Really Matter?

2 min read

There’s a common idea that looking stylish requires spending more.

A designer label. A higher price tag. The latest luxury piece.

But price and style are not the same thing.

When we think about expensive clothes and style, it's easy to assume that spending more automatically means dressing better.

You can wear an expensive outfit and still look like the clothes are wearing you. And you can put together something simple and affordable that looks considered, confident and completely your own.

Because style isn’t really about how much something costs. It’s about how you choose it, how you combine it and how you wear it.

The price tag doesn’t create the look

Luxury can offer beautiful craftsmanship, better materials and exceptional design. But none of those things automatically create personal style.

A £500 jacket that doesn’t suit you is still the wrong jacket.

A £40 one that fits beautifully, works with your wardrobe and feels like you can be far more valuable to your personal style.

That’s where shopping differently begins.

Instead of asking “Is this expensive enough to look good?”, ask:

Does this actually work for me?

Style is in the edit

The most interesting wardrobes aren’t necessarily filled with expensive pieces.

They’re edited.

They mix different price points, textures and influences. A great coat might sit beside an inexpensive T-shirt. A simple outfit might be transformed by jewellery, a bag, sunglasses or fragrance.

What connects everything isn’t the label.

It’s the person choosing it.

And perhaps that’s what personal style really is: knowing what deserves a place in your wardrobe — regardless of what the price tag says.

Buy the piece, not the status

There’s nothing wrong with buying luxury.

But buy something because you love the design, the quality, the craftsmanship or the way it makes you feel — not because you believe the logo will create style for you.

Because expensive can be beautiful.

Affordable can be beautiful.

And neither one guarantees style.

Style starts when you stop dressing for the price tag and start dressing like yourself.
